After viewing hundreds of styles of boots in various price ranges online, I found these. I wanted tall, brown leather boots that I knew would be comfortable. I have one pair of Born Crown boots with higher heels, which fit very well and are comfortable. I was drawn to the leather bow around the ankle on this boot -it struck me as feminine and unique. I've described these boots as eclectic -they've got a little bit of everything: the Western/riding feel from the height and color; the feminine touch with the bow; the worker-feel from the sole; and a classic almost Oxford touch from the seam across the toe. I was a little afraid they'd look like a shoe with a boot leg added to it because the seam runs all the way around the bottom of the shoe. In person, they don't really look that way, and the seam adds interest. I felt like I was taking a risk on the color because the "mandorla" color looks awful on the Born website. Fortunately, it's a little darker in real life than shown in all the other photos I found online. I really like the color -it's a warm, rich, deep tan that is nicely distressed. The leather is stiff enough that the boots don't sag too much, and the flannel lining is soft enough that I don't feel like I have to wear knee-high socks with them. The seam across the toes adds interest to my size-10 feet. As for comfort, they are amazingly comfortable with great arch support. I'm an at-home mom on my feet all day, and at the end of the day after wearing these boots, my feet and back are feeling great.. I've been indoors and outdoors with them, in the rain and mud, and so far they've held up very well. They look great over jeans and with skirts. I've gotten a lot of compliments on them. I waterproofed them with some Nikwax on the advice of people who know more about leather shoes than I do. It didn't darken the leather, much to my relief. I am very pleased with this purchase.
