I love Birkenstock shoes and the more stylish Footprints. These boots looked great in the photo and even better in person. I wear a US size 10 medium (women), but am all over the place with 40 and 41 in Birkenstocks, wearing a 40 in sandals and a 41 in some other styles and sometimes a narrow footbed but usually a medium. This made me hesitant to order internationally because of a potential return. I have found when the comment says "runs a little smaller", that the 41 usually works, and this boot in size 41 fits perfect. It's a very comfortable boot, too, and could be worn with lightweight socks or even without, since there is a soft, fuzzy lining inside.
The wooden buttons on the side are not just decorative, though, as they completely open the upper boot so that pant legs could be tucked inside easily, or for getting your foot inside with ease. The one potential problem with this is that there is a gap between buttons that doesn't completely close (as it would with a zipper). You can stick your finger through the gap between the lower and middle buttons, and the little gap could also allow cold air or snow inside your boot. The space between the middle and upper button has more overlapping material and fits tighter, though it is not a complete closure. I don't expect this to be a problem for me because I would probably have socks, as well, and wouldn't be using these for snow.
The boots are a black leather with a slightly rough finish not enough to be called suede but a little more textured than "smooth" (perhaps that's called "oiled"?). The lining is soft and comfortable. There is enough brown on the boot in the stitching and buttons that these boots would look good with brown as well as black pants, and also look great with jeans.
I was very pleased with the delivery of these boots, receiving them in 11 days from the supplier in Germany.
