The very day I received the items, I was able to wear them. They were delivered to the office and an unexpected storm hit the DC area harder than intially speculated. The rubber goes up to the lower part of the shin and the size I got fits nice and snug. I think all they had in stock at the time were L or XL, and according to other reviews, going a size large is probably a good bet. I love 'em and would recommend them.
