As I purchased these in February, I should have written this review much, much sooner. Regardless, my complaints about the quality started to appear just after 30 days. There is an issue with the exterior layer of the leather, especially in the areas of most bending, and flexing, where the there is cracking and peeling. First cracks appeared, and have continued to appear in the places of most stress, then they spread and the cracked pieces flake off. This problem doesn't go all the way through the leather, but just on the surface. I have never seen this problem in a leather product before, and I find it most annoying. I have tried many coats of mink oil and even resorted to using Aquaseal brand sealant. Nothing will stop this from continuing to happen. I have no way to know if it was a "poor" batch of leather used for the pair of boots, but I am simply baffled that this is happening. Otherwise I love the boots, though, I MUST suggest ordering a whole size smaller than what you would usually wear. Next pair of Doc Martens I purchase will not be from China, but from the UK. I will gladly pay $70 more for a pair that more closely resembles the quality and longevity I have known and expected from Dr.Martens.

I chose this boot because I liked the wedge soul & the white eye-lits and back tab, a modern version of the classic 8 eye boot.

Fit is the usual Dr Marten's fit, I go half a size smaller according to the European Conversion e.g.: I usually wear size 39/40 size so I purchased UK6 as Dr Marten's are unisex.

I would totally recommend trying them on in a store first to get the right fit.

As usual Amazon saved me lots of money and delivered before the delivery date.

I find Amazon offers fantastic prices, great variety and exceptional service.

As a mother of 2 toddler boys I simply can't take them shopping with me as it would be tantrum central so shopping online is a service I use continuously and Amazon is one of my favorite sites.

I have had both good and bad experiences buying Dr. Martens boots. I'm a big fan of black leather ankle/chukka boots, but surprisingly they are harder to find or I could be picky as well. I love Dr. Marten style. Some of my Docs have been uncomfortable, mainly due to poor leather and a lack of a good shoe insert, but these Pascals are good. The leather has not given me blisters, but the boots do not have a good insole. I ordered size 10UK-11USA and put in Docs insole and they feel good. It's so true that Dr. Marten's leather takes time to soften up, they are stiff. I think if they use better leather and charge 20 dollars more, I'd buy them anyways. I put in the black laces, used a black marker to cover all the white thread and they look great. I'd like if they were still made in the UK, for the tradition, craftsmanship, and keep people employed in skilled and semi skilled blue collared jobs. Unfortunately, people don't care where they buy it from, or how it's made. They are just interested in the cheapest price, and in most cases the product is of inferior quality. When a country, like the UK, manufactures something like boots, other business spring up to support the manufacturing and this is how people get jobs.
