I needed boots for walking my dog in a snowy climate, including at the dog park where the trails are not cleared when it snows. I wanted something warm, comfortable, waterproof, and reasonably stylish for less than $100. These boots met all of those criteria.

I chose the Propet brand because they offer narrow sizes, which are not easy to find in snow boots. I was confused by the size list but chose 8B(N), assuming that I would be getting a narrow boot. What I received was a plain old 8B -clearly medium width. When I tried them on, I found that they fit quite well anyway, and rather than hassle with an exchange, I decided to keep them. Although I sometimes feel that they could be snugger when I'm wearing ordinary socks, I haven't experienced any significant foot movement or slippage at the heel when I walk. So be forewarned: these boots run quite narrow and would be snug indeed on a medium-width foot if you're wearing heavy winter socks. Laced up as tight as they will go, they are also a nice fit on my slender calves, but that leaves a fair amount of leeway for larger legs.

I've comfortably hiked up to 3 miles on asphalt trails and have found the traction to be very good. (I've slipped on smooth ice, mind you, but that's a given. Ice is ice.) I've also plowed through snow that was deeper than the boot tops, and my feet have always stayed dry. My toes have gotten just a bit chilly when the temps were down around 0, but again, that was with ordinary socks. At 20 degrees, they've stayed toasty.

The dress code at my work place is "business casual," and no one has batted an eye when I've worn these boots all day because I accidentally forgot my shoes at home! I love the metal D-eyelets which make them so easy to take off and on without unlacing. Just pull the laces firmly and they are instantly snug all the way down the shaft.

All in all, these boots are an exceptional value.
