I measured my calves, which are unfortunately large, and then went looking for boots to fit. I looked for boots at widecalfboots website, then when I found a pair that had the right dimensions, went to Amazon to see if they carried it.
These were perfect! The only drawback, which I took one star away for, was that the inside ankle has a portion of the stiff part of the boot, rather than the softer part.
Other than that, the elastic at the back ensures a good fit for larger calf sizes.
If you do NOT have large calves (smaller than 16 inches around), these are not the pair for you. These should accommodate calf sizes 16-18 inches.

I am a VERY wide-calfed girl. Have had a lot of trouble ordering boots in the past, even if I measure and on paper they're "supposed" to fit. I bought these in a sz 9. I have a large calf, but, not large enough to wear the "wide" sizes as they are too large for my ankles. This boot with the elastic and the the lacing in the back is just right. Very nice leather, comfortable shoe.This boot has supple leather, runs slightly larger in the calf than my measured size (I ordered wide calf and used a measuring tape), and is attractive. I would have liked slightly more support/thickness in the sole.
