I'm soooooo glad I bought these boots now that we've been pummeled by 21 inches of wet heavy snow. These boots are perfect for heavy snow in subzero temps. Just a warning though, these boots look BIG! Understandably so because they're rated for -148. I'm not sure how many people in the world are elite enough to ever test this assertion, but they will likely work for whatever cold temperatures I'll ever experience. If you're into the new Ugg boot look, then they won't look comparatively that big but they are warm because they have a 1" foam liner inside them. They look a lot like snowboarding boots when you put them on. The liner makes it hard to tuck any normal pant cuffs inside them but if you're wearing long underwear with skipants then this works or you can roll your cuffs up and tuck them inside the cinch sleeve at the top. I wear a 7.5 street shoe and ordered a size 8 which fits perfectly. I am 5'4" and the boot comes up about mid-calf and it's about 14-15" tall from the ground. The shoe part of it is 12" measuring from the heel to the toe.

I didn't need a boot that would be warm down to -100, but decided to go ahead and get a heavy duty snow boot since the less warm/less waterproof ones were also over $100. I'm sure this boot is extremely warm and waterproof, and it is certainly very soft and cushy inside due to the pillowy inner liner, but I would not recommend this boot unless you truly need to stand for long periods of time in extreme cold and wet conditions. This boot is very stiff, fairly heavy, and quite difficult to walk in (similar to ski boots). My biggest complaint is actually due to the fit.

I have normal width size 7 feet and typically fit true to size in most running shoes and boots. My calves are very athletic and my heels are not narrow, so I've never experienced boots that moved around too much. The length of these boots is just right and true to fit. However, even with the straps cinched as tight as possible and wearing 3 pairs of ski socks, the width of the heel is so wide and the space above the top of the foot close to the ankle is so great that my heels were swimming. This is very comfortable, but when I walked my heels would move up and down at least 2 inches (and this is before the boots were broken in). While there is nothing to rub your heel on, so impending blisters were not an issue, having your heel move up and down is extremely uncomfortable and annoying. I had trouble walking without tripping on my flat hardwood floor, so I can imagine that walking in the snow in these would be a nightmare and a little dangerous. I am returning these boots for a different pair.

[Note: I returned these boots and tried the similar Baffin Women's Ice Field boots. I had the same problem in the Ice Fields with the heel width and space above the top of the foot close to the ankle. I believe this is due to the stiff, straight rubber behind the heel that protects and warms the ankle; it does not flex in even when the straps or laces are tightened.] Overall, Baffin makes a very high quality and clearly well-manufactured boot for a great price, but the fit on both the Women's Impact Insulated boot and the Women's Ice Field boots allows the heels to move around way too much.

I finally found "the" boot. I have been looking forever for a boot that would keep my feet warm. I had to retire my Lacrosse 20+ year old boots and was looking for anything that would compare to being as warm as they were. I finally found them! This morning our temperature was -5 so I thought it would be a good day to go romping around outside just to see how warm they actually are. I was VERY impressed! I was outside for over two hours walking around in the snow and my feet were so toasty warm. I have a lot of problems with cold feet and I "have" to have a boot that will keep them warm. These are it for me. And did I mention how comfy they are? It is like walking on a mattress. :) I guess the only thing that was a little hard for me to get used to, at first, are the higher tops these have, but after wearing them for an hour or so they limbered right up and I was used to them. Like any shoe/boot you buy, at first, you need to get used to them on your feet. Some people complain about them being heavy. I don't think they are at all. My former boots were "much" heavier. I suppose if you are use to a very light, cold boot, these would seem heavier. But, that is where the warmth comes in. They are a very well-made boot. I just can't say enough good about them. I would give them more stars if I could....

Wow, these boots are extremely warm! I am from Arizona, so my body does not handle below freezing weather well. But these boots do the trick! The only downfall is that the boots are pretty big and bulky, but they do fit under my snow pants very nicely. They aren't as easy to hike around in than smaller/lighter shoes, but you'll get used to them. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend these boots to any person who hates the cold as much as I do!
