I got these in the mail today and they are exactly what I wanted! Super soft matte leather, mildly distressed, absolutely perfect! I got them in black and I love that they are not the cheap looking shiny black leather like a lot of boots I've seen. They look like I've had them for years which is what I wanted. The fit is great although I would advise that perhaps this brand runs a tad large. I ordered a 7.5 and I think it fits more like an 8. That is my only caution. These boots are classy and feminine, I can't wait to wear them! ~Christine McDaniel

I didn't pay full price for these boots, so I wasn't especially concerned if it didn't fit all my needs. But it turned out pretty great for meI wear these almost daily! I love the slouchy look around the ankles, the soft leather that holds its shape, and the matte, distressed finish. However, there are a few cons to mention...

Like other reviewers, I received them in a box that was way too small, with the toes curled upwhat is that about? I had to stuff the toe area for a few days just to get them back into shape. If you're looking for a classic toe, this is not your boot, as its toe is way more pointy and 'cowboy', if you will. Having said that, I am a 6 and ordered a 6, which fit great except around this pointy toe area. A little snug! I can only wear thin socks or tights with them. The shaft fit nicely over my skinny jeans, but I can see it might be a little narrow for some. There are also two leather flaps around the elastic in the shaft that have already curled and pulled away from the boot, which kind of cheapens the look. Bottom lineif you like these boots, buy them, but not at $150-200. There are better boots you can find for that price.

I receive many compliments on these boots. They look wonderful with my winter wardrobe. My only criticism is that they're a little snug across the foot, but as I've worn them more and more, it's not as bad, but that might because I order a half size lower than I usually wear (I tried them on in a store).

I don't have large calves (more or less average) and I have plenty of room to tuck in my skinny jeans. My sister with thin legs couldn't wear these. I ordered an 8 and the opening is approximately 14.5 inches.

Although the leather is a little below grade for such expensive boots, I don't feel too bad since I got them at a super price. The fit (size 10) is true to size and even though the padding in the foot bed is not overly cushy, they are still comfortable for a more dress style boot.

Other reviewers note that the shaft is very narrow, and I agree. Even with elastic goring, the boot is extremely tight and uncomfortable if I pull them all the way up to my knees... and I do not have wide calves. But I don't mind the scrunched look, so I just push them down a few inches. But if you're looking for a true tall riding boot, you won't be happy with this look.

The boot fit at the ankle is a bit roomy, almost too much width. If only they had used the extra leather around the ankle area on the shaft!

The leather toe box has a "distressed" almost cowboy like effect, which along with the more pointed toe was exactly the style I was looking for. However, they are not "gray" in my book... more a weird kind of taupe and black combined. I was a little disappointed in the color because I really wanted a true steel-gray pair of boots.

Another weird feature is how they arrive with their toes curled up, slipped bare inside a sack! But once the boots are on your feet, the "curly" toes disappear.

Even with all of the little drawbacks I'm still fairly happy. I have a bunion on one foot and arthritis in another, so finding a dressier style of boot (moving away from an "earth-style shoe) that I can actually wear all day and walk around in without pain is a tough bill to fill. The OTBT Petaluma fits that bill, so I will be keeping them.

If I could afford it, I would have gone for a boot made by "Trippen," but at almost $400 a pair, a little out of my league. If you want a pair of mid-ranged quality boots with some decent style, you should try and buy the Petaluma riding boot when it's on sale. I might have been more unhappy if I had paid the regular almost $200 price.

I got my boots today in the mail love them! They were discounted/used and probably originally belonged to one of the complaining parties. Put the boots on people! Sure they look strange curled up on the toes but they fit great, I almost didn't order them because of a couple off the mark comments. They are comfy and best of all they look great. Very happy I listened to the positive reviews!
